2014 meath championships

The IKKUs Meath Karate Championships 2014 took place on Saturday May 31st in Claremont Stadium, Navan. With an impressive 250 entries, the event showcased the IKKUs emerging talent.

Each of the organisations 13 clubs were very well represented – Navan, Bohermeen, Dunderry, Duleek, Simonstown, Trim, Ratoath, Glasnevin, Portmarnock, Larkhill, Karate Ash, Cork and Cloghroe. All proceeds raised are to be donated to Charity.

Larkhills Ripples Group and Wheelchair Users kicked off proceedings at 10am. A big congratulations to all students who took part, and their families also. Their hard work was very evident on the day, under the instruction of Coach Brian Carroll.

Next up was Senior Kata and Senior Kumite .Well done to all competitors, who put in spirited performances. The Elite of The IKKUs International Squad then took centre stage. This event really showcased the talent within The IKKU.

Junior Kata then got underway. All age groups, boys and girls, from under 6 up to under 18 performed a wide variety of Kata, both Kenpo and Shotokan.

Following a brief break, the Junior Kumite then kicked off. Again, as with Kata, all age groups were catered for. Some great talent was on display, under the watchful eye of The IKKU Top Brass, Junior Development Officer and ONAKAI's National Junior Coach.

The IKKU only event was an ideal opportunity to see the talent within the organisation, remarked ONAKAI Junior Coach John Connolly. As usual, the well-established clubs took away a large haul of medals. However it was noted that the newer clubs also took home their fair share of silverware. The IKKU would like to thank all entries for taking part, and also their parents for supporting this charity event. We also would like to thank all The Officials, Judges, and Scorekeepers etc. who assisted on the day. It was a great team effort by all, and proved to be a very successful event.
